2023 Spring Fling

Good afternoon,

We are excited to announce that registration for the 2023 Spring Fling is officially open!   To register for this years event you must use the following link:  www.golfgenius.com/ggid/bsxmgw/register

We will be utilizing Golf Genius Tournament Software for all tournament registration moving forward.  I understand this is a big change compared to how we have done things in the past, but this will make the process much more efficient for all parties.  This software will also make tournament days more exciting by providing more player engagement on the day of the tournament with features such as live scoring and live TV leaderboards.

At this time payments will still be collected in the pro shop for the Spring Fling but we are in the process of setting up online payments for future events.

If you have any questions regarding the registration process or Golf Genius in general, please don’t hesitate to email or call me.

Thank you,

Drew Miller, PGA
Assistant Golf Professional

Golf Course Update

Good morning,

As many of you know the sprigging process started yesterday morning.  We made significant progress as 14 greens were completed.  The remaining greens are being sprigged this morning and should be completed by the end of the day.  We had a tremendous turnout of members that volunteered their time to help put sprigs down and make the process move along much faster than anticipated.  This will allow us to open up the back nine for play starting tomorrow, August 5th.  The front nine will remain closed until further notice with heavy tree trimming and removal taking place.

** We also ask that you please refrain from walking on the newly sprigged greens.  This is a major investment in the golf course and we want to ensure it is a success, so please stay off the greens while they are growing in.  Thank you for all of the support!

Thank you,

CCC 2021 Golf Course Renovation – Update 2

CCC 2021 Golf Course Renovation – Update 2

The CCC golf course renovation continues, with significant objectives
accomplished this week. The third and final application of chemicals to kill our
bent grass was applied, and your project team transitioned to greens preparation
for TifEagle sprigging. Deep core aerification, multiple iterations of verticutting,
and limited shaping on our most severely sloped greens. In addition, we cut and
removed the latitude grass around the edges of all greens. This initiative will assist
with limiting encroachment of our existing latitude grass into the TifEagle post
grow in. Soil samples were taken and submitted to an analysis lab in Nashville—
the results will dictate the amount of phosphorus, potassium, calcium,
magnesium, sulfur, boron, copper, iron, manganese, zinc, sodium, and nitrate
nitrogen that we will need to apply prior to sprigging. Historically, our turf has
sustained very good levels of phosphorus, calcium, iron, and zinc.

Green Shaping

Holes three, six, and nine have been modified. We are confident the adjustments will increase the number of available pin placement locations on each green. The most significant change was on number three. It is now a two–tiered green, with a deceiving false front.

Irrigation Upgrades

This effort continues, and will remain our highest
priority throughout the TifEagle grown in. Our irrigation
system remains our highest risk, with progress being
made to repair inoperable water heads, irrigation lines,
and automation control of each zone. All repairs, and full
system upgrade will not be completed during this project
but will remain a priority project over the next 24
months. We are on schedule to complete the repair of all green side systems to
ensure we can support the TifEagle watering cycles.
  • Front Nine Drainage Mitigation

Our initial repairs were tested with this week’s heavy rainfall. We achieved
success as drainage on holes number five and six drastically improved. The front
nine will receive heavy bulldozer work next week to complete our objectives on
    the front nine holes.
  • Heavy Tree Trimming and Tree Removal

We understand that some of our members are concerned with the number of trees we are removing from the course. We are sensitive to those concerns; however, we must reduce the cost of labor, support equipment and material as these costs are directly tied to member fees.

The USGA released an excellent article “Five Things Every Golfer Should Know About Trees on The Course”. It is a short read, and I would encourage all to review it as it fully captures the intent behind our objectives: We are removing trees that limit play from all areas of our existing T boxes; enable grass growth in those areas we have roots, and rocks; and mitigate the significant cost of labor to clean-up fallen branches after every storm.

  • Golf Course Closure

Unfortunately, the golf course will be closed next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (August 3-5). Sprigging, and heavy equipment will be operating across all 18 holes. The driving range and short game areas will remain open.

    Sincerely,
    The Project Team

CCC 2021 Golf Course Renovation – Update 1

CCC 2021 Golf Course Renovation – Update 1

The CCC renovation was initiated this past Wednesday, 14 July, with the first chemical application to kill our existing bent grass greens. The greens are beginning to turn brown, and the second application is scheduled for this Wednesday, 21 July. Dry weather and very low winds is required to ensure a precise application to avoid damage to the shoulders of the existing greens.
The following is a summary of this week’s activities:
All greens were inspected to identify areas that require minor reshaping to prevent pooling of water on the surface. As many of you know, we have several greens that have presented these challenges over the years. Our team utilized sod cutters to remove healthy grass—modified greens, shoulders and replaced the sod. Pictured here, our #1 green was adjusted on the back left, and front right side.

All dead, or decaying trees were removed and a large majority of trees on the front nine were trimmed. Primary intent behind this effort was to clean up all areas that come into play during a round of golf, and ensure sufficient sunlight to those areas we struggle to grow grass in.

Pictured here, the tree on the right side of the #1 fairway received an aggressive trim. Men and women, who play from the #5 T-box will appreciate the adjustment, as you will be able to shape a shot from left to right without the challenge of hitting the low hanging tree limbs.

The highest risk with this project, and our ability to rapidly grow Bermuda grass, is our dated irrigation system. We recently replaced our primary pump which is located within the Red River in anticipation of this project. The pump keeps our retention pond located beside the # 14 fairway full and provides water throughout the course. This week we initiated a comprehensive inspection and repair of all sprinkler heads. Frequent and consistent application of water is essential for the TifEagle grass grow. This effort will continue over the next several weeks.

The project team would like to thank our corporate sponsors and members of the CCC who volunteered to support our efforts this past week. Without the specialized equipment and additional labor augmentation—we would likely be behind schedule.
Although temporary greens and limited play are not optimum—it was encouraging to see the number of members playing the course, practicing their short games and taking lessons. We have established a project completion target date of 1 October, 2021.
Sincerely,
The Project Team
